I'm thinking of taking a weeks holiday in September. Has anyone been on a riding holiday to Spain (or anywhere else in Europe) that they would recommend. Ideally like somewhere I could do a combination of a bit of dressage training and some beach rides.

OH and I went to Can Jou in Catalonia - http://en.canjou.com/horsetrails/

the horses were fab, the trails were really really good, the food was epic, the dawn gallop on the beach was incredible, the guide was yummy and spoke perfect english, and we had such a good time I can't describe it.

we did the mountains to the sea trail - you need to be reasonably fit, but if you ride most days then you'd probably be ok! We stayed mostly in little family run guesthouses, where you feel like you're staying in someone's house. The one single letdown was the hotel we stayed in before the dawn beach ride, but only cos the air con didn't work and we really needed it that night, but we only had 4hrs sleep so wasn't worth complaining about! :D

I don't know if they do dressage training, but it's worth asking as they are such helpful lovely people.

I'm going on one in June but obviously can't tell you until then. It's in Portugal - although not near a beach.

Based inland on the Costa Del Sol, have a look at Ride With Me. They are not strictly a riding holiday but can help with nearby accommodation in order to put the 2 together.

Although Kalle doesn't ride on the beach there are lots of different rides available.

Wherever you end up, I hope you enjoy it

Hi yes I have i did this before deciding to go and look for holiday work there.
have been on holidays in france portugal and spain.and the uk
excellent would advise all horsey people to.but make sure the trekking routes are for you.ie experienced novice etc as it can be boring if you are on a trek with novices.
if you need any info let me know september is excellent for spain.and some routes there inland are great I have some contacts if you want as I did some working holidays on the horse holiday centres there.also if you want to you can take your own horse and trek out with them.
