Thinking of going on a riding holiday this year.

I've been single since last summer and I wasn't planning to go on holiday this year (as I had no one to with

), but then my work mate brought in a riding holidays brouchure in to work to show me (it was junk mail to her)

You can have fantastic holidays from France to South Africa, from Peru to Mongolia or Kyrgyzstan (sp?). It seems really good, but not sure I could find suitable vegetarian food in half of these places

Also, I found this on an American website:
http://www.ridingholidays.com/equestrian-centers.html

I thought it was a great idea - a nice holiday abroad and learn about dressage riding or something different.

Anyway, glad to hear any feedback on riding holidays anyone has experienced

Thank you

Yep, I've been on 2 riding holidays abroad. One in the South of France (Tarn Valley) and one in Tuscany.

I had a great time on both and both were in lovely countryside. You could eat F/B at both as they had a resident chef who produced great meals and free wine! Accom' was en-suite and horses were fine for a few days break. There was an English owner at both places and lessons, horse-ball etc., for those who wanted that.

I would say DO NOT bother booking through a specialist riding vacation company. If you just Google the riding centre it will be much cheaper if you book direct with them! ...Am I allowed to say that?

Good idea - go on try one! Went to Spain last year and tried Western for a week - didn't half improve my posture, apart from the canter (lope) where I got my middle bit of my bra caught around the pommel and had to "release them" to get sat back up again!! Goes red with the memory...

I don't think I'll have quite the same problem LOL

Thanks for the ideas. I suppose I could also fit my holiday around a big event. I managed to persuade my non-horsey ex-OH to go on holiday Andalucia, Spain in the last week of the 2002 World Equestrian Games in Jerez. It was great!

I like my Driving Trials or Eventing (much the same format LOL), so I thought about maybe one of the big international events this year.

There are Driving Trials World Championship events in Poland (Horse Pairs) and in Denmark (All Pony Classes); and the European Eventing Champs in Italy (which, incidentily, is where Britain won individual and tream gold at the World Single Horse Driving Championships last year!!!)

Maybe I could do a tour?

I think if you were to go on holiday on your own, what better way than a riding holiday. I think it would do you the world of good. I would love to go on one this year, but have planned to save with my friend for a week next year, something like what you have listed.

You may find that others on the forum may be interested in going with you ...

I went on a riding holiday in iceland last september on my own, and have to say it was one of the best things i've done. it was for 6 days which was just right for me and i had a fab time. long days riding and chilling reading and chatting with new people in the evenings. fantastic.
most people on the trip were in pairs or groups but it was a great group of people and i had plenty of 'me time' but could also interact with everyone else.
did feel very brave going on my own and it was very good for me. go for it... if the alternative is not to go, then there is no question.
