I'm about to try our first riding horse class together but have been given slightly mixed messages about tack and turnout. Is it a navy or tweed jacket for myself and can I show in a snaffle bridle or should it be a double or Pelham? I'm slightly concerned about this as my boy is very light in the mouth and I don't want to unsettle him.
Many thanks

Is it local level? Am guessing it is, you can wear either tweed or navy, You can show in a snaffle if his happier in it, pelham or double bits look smarter but unless your horse is used to be ridden in them stick with the snaffle for now, maybe try a pelham at home in preparation for your next show see how he goes.

Snaffle is fine. Reg shows as a Riding Horse, and is snaffle mouthed, and it's never been commented on.

Correct turn out is tweed jacket for you, hunter type noseband and blingy velvet browband for him :)

Just thought I'd add, I noticed a big difference in my general placings when I went from snaffle to pehlam.

My mare had a very soft mouth so I just had a very very soft contact on the curb rein and she hardly noticed.

This is a riding horse! Albeit one of the most successful ones theres ever been but I always look at the top combos if I want turn out inspiration!

Riding horse showing: double bridle bling browband tweed jacket.
But for tack and turnout a blue jacket should be used

I don't agree, as the names suggests correct turnout should be marked in the class so that would mean turnout to type - so I'd only expect to see hacks and show ponies in navy jackets.

I was reading the SFAS schedule this morning and it said that a snaffle bridle wouldn't be penalised, as that's a 'lower' level type competition it led me to believe that elsewhere snaffles are not viewed very well, I don't know whether that is the case but could you get hold of a Pelham with the same mouthpiece as your snaffle maybe?

This is my girl dressed as a Riding Horse, we should have spurs on aswell but we were doing a veteran class so no spurs aloud. x
