Riding horse twice in a day?

Course! I don't have much time to ride so when I have time I go all out (horses fitness allowing etc) When I was getting them fit they were worked twice a day as standard :)
 
Yes, it's a much better way to excercise a stabled horse than just one trip out. When we are working our horses go out at least three times a day (for 20 min show + warm-up each time), and can be up to five times if the demos are scheduled that way.

I know, I'm so mean to poor BP! But the poor 'pony' used to work in a trekking centre and do 6 day rides across most of the Lake District so thinks nothing of being ridden, stopping for a lunch break and getting back to it!

We rarely do it, due to lack of time, but I certainly wouldn't think twice about it and have definitely done it a few times down the years. He is a biddable sort who gets on with whatever I ask of him so he never seems to fuss and while I wouldn't think to do 2x3 hour fast hacks in a day these days if the chance presented itself I would happily school one end of the day and hack/xc/sj/play at another time.
 
Thanks all for the replies, had a fab jump lesson! :) of course I know you can ride a horse more than once a day & is fine to do so if fit - I was asking how many HHOers do it normally!

Yes. Totally normal.

I ride to work tie her up, then use her for escort for rides, tie up and then ride home.

Most of the horses at the farm do two or three sessions in a day.

Don't worry... I'm just out doing a bit of fishing in between appointments :D
 
I don't ride twice a day very often but if i have a show I would. The other time I do is if the horse has had an issue in the morning eg lots of spooking at the same thingin I might ride again later in the day to repeat that exercise... and once that was done get off again. I don't think it does any harm tho I just don't have that much time on my hands.
 
All the time... I don't tend to ride the same horse twice myself (I ride several on a given day so I wouldn't ride the same one twice unless I had to for some specific purpose) but it's not unusual for me to ride a horse in the morning and someone else to ride it in the afternoon or vice versa... Horses don't exactly measure time :p I mean, the passage of a day between rides is really arbitrary. As long as the horse is not tired - physically less so than mentally - it's not an issue.
