Riding in Australia

I spent two years travelling in Australia, didn't so much as touch a horse for the first eighteen months and then worked in a riding school in Perth for the last six. Just be aware that it is likely to be very hot! If you go trail riding/trekking somewhere (which I didn't but have heard through friends so this is second hand knowledge) people tend to ride in jeans rather than jods (jods as norm for a riding school though).

The way they look after their horses is very different, they are less like pets compared to our pampered ponies! You may see some that you think are rather skinny (obviously depends where you go, but this was my experience), just remember that over here a fair proportion of ours are overweight so this may make them look skinnier than they actually are if that makes sense! They probably won't be so uptight on rules and regulations as we are over here too.

Try and go for a beach ride and a swim if you can, that's great fun and feels really odd when they swim! And you'll definitely have fun, Aussies are so laid back and friendly. Where abouts are you going?

Hi,
I haven't been there but Megalong Valley Farm in the blue mountains looks good.
There is also Glenworth Valley, a little bit north of sydney.
Closer to the city there is Malabar Riding School, or the centennial riding schools.
South of sydney there is Darkes Forest Riding Ranch that was good when I last went< but that was about 4 yrs ago.
Kx
