I used to ride at the Gordano Valley Riding Centre which I really enjoyed. Relaxed atmosphere, nice ponies, not too expensive, bar/drinks area for after-lesson chats... and I went on some fun hacks as well.
Urchinwood manor is good too, I went there for a Stage 1 prep - it is quite 'posh' and rather more pricey up there though so it depends what your friend wants.
