does anyone else ride differently witha crowd of people there? when i was jumping BSJA i saw a load of people in the gallery and was too busy thinking what they thought of my riding that i try so hard it has the opposite effect of what im actually trying to do!!

I always feel a lot more confident when i'm riding with others than when i'm on my own

sometimes it can intimedate you when the 'big guns' turn up on their horses, i try not to listen to who's there and concentrate on my own riding.

I do think that it makes you think more about where your legs, hands etc are more when you know people could be watching you, trouble is when you think about what you are doing it feels fake and forced, and not very comfy if you know what i mean.

No, gave up worrying about what people think of my riding years ago...but then I don't 'compete' in front of people so I suppose I don't have that problem. I do endurance...no one around to stare at you then apart from the odd marshall or crew member....bliss!

I can kind of answer this, as my group lesson is on a Friday night so I kind of feel that everyone is watching what I am doing. Now it has taken me to the age of 25 years old to realise that although everyone is watching me they are necessarily thinking "OMG what a tw*t", and might be thinking "Thats a nice trot". And so what is someone thinks "OMG what a tw*t" who is it for them to judge me!

Having said that in a warm up arena I might just die of fright

Doesn't really bother me either way - the mare is either a total horror or works beautifully and I've given up trying to predict how she'll be.
What does bother me, however, is when I'm a spectator in the gallery and people all around me are making loads of horrible, b*tchy comments about the people riding in the competition. I always try to tell them that if they think they know so much better, why are they not out there doing it themselves, so heavens knows what they say about me when I'm riding!
I do think, though, that fellow riders should try and support each other as much as possible. We don't get a lot of support from people who think we are crazy doing what we do, so it is kind of sad if we don't support and encourage other riders.

AH this is one of the phew times where my incredible power of concentration and terrible riding ability come in handy.
I have to concentrate so hard just to ride that I have no room for anything else and hence don't worry about whats going on around me.
In fact it is often said you could set a bomb off next to me and I would not know
