Does anyone out there go riding with their horse wearing a fly mask? If so which make do you use? My mare is a nightmare where flys are concerned, shaking her head violently and almost hopping on the spot to shake them off, I usually end up with either my crop being used as a fly swat around her face (which she doesn't mind!), or a branch that I've grabbed from somewhere, so last year I rode her out in her fly msak but it is a dark black mesh one and I got the weirdest of looks off people, someone asked if we were going jousting!! I was a wee bit worried she coiuldn't see through it very well, but it didn't seem to be too bad for her and what a huge difference for us both in her way of going. Just wondered if anyone had bought one of those that are supposed to be for riding in or if they just used the normal field one??

I've been riding in a UV field one on a horse at work who is having eye problems at the moment and it doesn't bother him in the slightest. He doesn't jump in it but he does gallop in it and hack out round the roads not a bother.

I have an equilibrium one designed for riding in which seems pretty good. Only used it a couple of times though - bought it a few years ago and we now live on a hill and don't have much trouble with flies! TBH as long as she's comfortable it doesn't really matter what it looks like. :)

I have one ( not sure what make ) designed to ride in - it certainly keeps the flies away and he can see through it, but the piece that keeps flies/pollen away from his nostrils either irritates or amuses him, when we are trotting he likes to flip it up and down!

Use the equilibrium field mask - the black one with ears designed for turnout with uv protection and a nose net - I use this combination for schooling and hacking out from march to October. It's the only way I can ride safely.
