Riding in frost?

I wouldn't risk it, even thou i'm sure my mare would be fine, its the drivers that worry me. The road from the yard can be slippery and single track so best to be safe

We're going for a hack in the woods this morning, but I wouldn't be going if we had to negotiate any roads. A lot of riders wouldn't think twice, but I'm a wimp and worry for my mare than anyone else in the world.:rolleyes:

If shod - hell no on the roads.

If bf yes but Id want to know the route had been gritted to limit the risk of a car slamming its brakes on at seeing a horse and skidding into us.

thats the reason why my mare goes barefoot every winter ;)
shod al round for studs in summer - barefoot for a breal from nails and to help slipping/snow balling up in winter

Thats interesting unshod horses seem to slip less than shod.....went out with YO last week had been raining so didnt apper icy or so we thought....was very slippery her horse is only shod in front and was ice skating on the back. My mare is shod all round with road pins and did not slip once.

Yes. We have no choice as temperature drops below zero on a regular basis here. Horses shod with snow grips (aka hoof grips) & widia pins.
