was on the way home from school today and cut through the park, only to go in a find it completely torn up big inprints and dips in the ground! didn't known what had happened but on closer inspection found that it was where horses had been galloping (horse shoe marks everywhere, and evidence that they had slidded round some of the corners, and there was one huge patch on mud slide, so not sure if they had fallen

!!!!!!!!

the ground in the park is always dodgy during the winter as it has no proper draning and jst stays soggy, therefore making the ground dangerous to gallop and canter on. it is also illegal to ride in there as it belongs to a football club/church and the public footpath is around the outside of it.

but the thing is, the main gate way thats down my road is blocked by a fallen tree, and unless they opened the gate, cantered on the road and jumped this tree, which i doubt, they have gone through 2 of them little twist gate things. (not sure how to explain it)

the thing is, i think i may know the people who have been doing this. without mentioning names, i've heard that they do this in other park around the area as the yard they are at has no menage and they do lots of roadwork.

should something be said if they are caught in the act?? and what sanctions should be taken seeing as its land thats not supposed to be ridden on (bikes (ones with motors as in brum brum bikes.) and cars (unless theres a footie match) arn't allowed in there)

anyway, would just like some advice as mum has seen it too and she wants to know what other people would do if they saw things like that.

thanks.

not that i know of as most of the horses round here are in secure areas, but do loose horses really make tracks around field and perfect circles??

No but that is not really what you posted - hoof prints, slipping round corners and falling would all be more indicative of loose horses.

If you now say there are perfect circles then it is more likely to be a ridden horse - why not have a word with the council?

shall tell mum. even tho she phoned about the tree 2 weeks ago and they said somebody will be over last week (they said next week) but its still not gone. wills till sugest it to her though

I was shocked to learn it was taboo to canter accross golf courses. I tend to do less damage with a horse than I do with a 9 iron.

When I first got a loan pony, the "older kids" showed us a ride that involved riding accross a fareway now I think about it that must have really pissed off the golfers but we really didnt know that it was wrong!

Wortley Estate golf course also frowned upon hunting hounds across their golf course, apparently its special grass or something? What is all that about eh Iain?

Special grass sounds like there is some drug related activity - I believe it is for the great good we gallop on it!!!! KICK ON!!!!

I cannot abide by people that ride on land they should not and would not hesitate to shop anyone I caught doing it...I don't care what that makes me but I hear so many excuses about not enough places to ride, no bridleways etc etc...there is no excuse and it gives all riders a bad name and reputation...which does not help anyone!
If I knew who was doing this then I would have a quiet word with the council or police...a polite slap on the wrist should do the trick!

Lol, on our 'local' golf course the fine used to be 50p a hoof print if they caught you!
Once someone left the riding school stables open (or opened them on purpose) and they went mental..............not good!
When we had our first horses at home we used to ride through the local park, but on the gravel path.

All I know is, if I find out who has been straying off the bridleway and galloping on our bank (the bank we havent been galloping on as it is too wet and dont want to damage the ground), they will find themselves in a headlock. Thats only if I find out. If my dad finds out.....

Maybe your local BHS Access person could be appraoched to have a chat with them and to point out some legal alternative routes, otherwise they are looking at being taken to civil court for the costs to repair any damage done
