Hi all,

I've joined the H&H forum as I've just recently made the move to London and need some advice as to where I can go riding in the big smoke...

I'm a country girl at heart but had to sell up the four legged friends to move here indefinitely as I just dont have the time or money to commit fully.

However, I'm starting to get very itchy feet and could do with some recommendations for places to go for a good old hack or perhaps for a few lessons.

A few things to note:

- am living in South West London (Fulham) so somewhere nearby would be ideal....and I dont yet have my car with me so somewhere accessible too!

- somewhere reasonably priced

- I've been riding and have owned my own since the age of 5 so I'm also after somewhere where you can have a really good hack out or challenging lessons...I'm not interested in paying a fortune for basics / something that wont challenge me

Any ideas / thoughts would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

x

I used to keep and ride my horse in London and hack it in Hyde Park and Hampstead Heath so I know most of the yards.

For indoor riding school lessons in the evenings and at weekends you could try the Wormwood Scrubbs Pony Centre behind Wormwood Scrubbs Prison. This is a large indorr arena and they have some quite challenging horses there! It is run by Sister Mary Joy and the indoor arena was built by the Anika Rice Programme Challenge Anika. They have a few different visiting instructors.

Alternatively further out their is Trent Park Riding Stables which is almost opposite an Undeground Station. (Think it is Cockfosters).

For a dedent hack out I am afraid you are going to have to travel out of London unless you can find a horse to share at one of the more local livery yards.

Thanks for the great suggestions

Think both are around an hour away from me so not too bad! And Trent Park looks great and very reasonable prices.

Would love to be able to loan instead but have no idea where to start around here! I'm at a loss!

If you wanted to share you could try Mote End Farm in Mill Hill (North West London) which has excellent facilities including 250 acres of fields to hack around and two full size menages. It is close to Mill Hill Broadway overland station or a bus ride from Mill Hill East or Totteridge undeground station.

wimbledon village is meant to be very good, although is pricey

stag lodge ride in richmond park - they have some very good hacking, although again are not cheap.

Hi,

I was in the same situationas you until I caved in a bought my boy at the beginning of the year! Finding decent horses is quite tricky, but depending on how much time/ effort you waned to put in maybe check out horsemart for horses to share/exercise as I found my last loan horse on there and he was fab.
Else, windsor great park is awesome to hack round and you feel a million miles away from town. you can also get a train there pretty easily. if you pm me i can give you the details

I too am a Fulhamite **waves**
Though I am still lucky enough to have horsey parents who have my boys at home - which is a 2.5hr drive to and fro every weekend!
