Hi everyone, haven't posted in a very long time but thought I would make use of your bountiful knowledge of the area.

I'm a student at the University of Nottingham, did the Riding Club first year, now in my third and feeling pushed for time work wise but desperate to ride horses!

Can anyone recommend any nice yards that hack and for potential lessons? Not too far from the Lenton area. I've been riding, working around and owned horses for a number of years but I just want a bit of fun and break from work!

Thank you so much! Milly

Thanks CrazyMare, I'll check it out. Think we were at Trent Valley when I was with them although I could be wrong. Quite a big yard, quite a quick turnaround of horses.

I used to work at Bassingfield riding school a number of years ago, kinda in between West Bridgford and Radcliffe on Trent. I can't say what it's like these days but it used to be ok and I do know it's definitely still going.

Bassingfield is ok. Avoid west bridgford. Theres a good one near blidworth woods if you want nice hacking. Bunny is ok and elms farm but they seem to be hit and miss with answering the phones and cancelling lessons so I gave up.

yes, riding club has been at trent valley for a few years now. before that we were at wellow park, but both are quite a mission to get to from uni.

i have also been to woodside stables once which is in arnold which is quite a lot closer & there are bus links to arnold of you are not driving. i think they do lessons & hacks although i am not sure if it is BHS approved (i dont know that it isnt though). they have a website if you google it

As for Bunny i havent ridden there but in know there is a bus that goes in that direction, i think from the front of QMC. it is NCT but im not sure which number.

also to plug the riding society they now offer riding at a lot more different times than 2 years ago so it might be worth contacting them to see if they can offer you anything to fit in with your timetable. i'm on a year out at the moment so am not involved with the club this year but last year there was regular riding on a wednesday & saturday as well as horseball throughout the week, opportunities for friday night showjumping (depending on drivers) & weekend hacks/ xc occasionally. PM me if you want me to put you in touch with the president or contact them through the SU site

Bunny is on the bus route (also at notts!). Another good thing to do is join the SB riding club and get the free bus to SB then go with the riding club there to barleyfields. Its a very good riding school :) No idea as to when they go used to be tuesday, wednesday and friday nights but I can find out for you if you want me to :)

Thanks for your reply! I'm going to go with a pal who can drive so transport isn't a problem. So any suggestions slightly further afield are very much welcome x

If I were you I would go Barleyfields then! Its where the team from the uni trains and has a really nice selection of horses, its about a 15-20 minute drive from SB so not sure how far it would be from notts but its one junction down the M1 compared to SB :) x
