I was also told by the midwife, nurse and the physio that it's pretty safe up to 12 weeks as the baby is protected inside the pelvis. When the baby moves up and out in front of you it gets a tiny bit riskier but they are sloshing round in a huge bag of water so fairly safe until they start getting big enough to feel limbs etc. The midwife also said you could do more damage falling down the stairs, having a car accident etc. I also teach in a pretty tough school where getting assaulted by a pupil is a possibility, or catching an illness that can harm a foetus like slapcheek or measles. But I still had to turn up for work. There are so many risks.
I personally hacked gently on my own horse up to 20 weeks with my 2 pregnancies. With both it started to get uncomfortable then as I could feel baby wobbling about. But the main reason was once I had seen my 20 weeks scans and found out they were little boys I just didn't want to ride any more. It wasn't worth the risk for me and my husband - once we had seen those little arms and legs and counted the tiny toes they became very real and precious.
As soon as they were born I was desperate to ride again though!
