I've tried before, but the sturrup leathers takes the skin off my legs, so i sometimes ride in shorts with chaps over the top then it's easier to take the chaps off then it is too change.
Did when I was in my early teens......much wiser, will always ride in jods....as value my legs to much, and when I did ride in shorts where always covered in scratches from brambles!
I used to ride in shorts (when I was brave enough to get my many legs out lol
) if riding off the beaten track, great way to get some colour on them pins, yes it does rub to certain degree (supposed it depends on how you use your legs...got a lazy lump of a horse that you need to kepp nagging..... total fruit loop that you need to keep a firm grip round.....or perhaps an oversensitive type that you have to keep your legs off their sides at all times!) but its bearable for a few rides if you get a couple of days in the sun to tan up...worthe blisters!
Bareback is an option...used to do this on my cob, but you end up with a sweaty wet bum, not very attractive and your car seat will hum ding for ages!
I did it when I was younger and have permanent spider vein bruise things on the inside of my calves from where the stirrup leathers pinched me, so NO! Never! I wouldn't ride my horse if it was that hot anyway, he hates this heat and turns into a slug!
lol... well I went out riding in my shorts yesterday as it was too too hot for jods.... and I am 43!!!
I did have jod boots and half chaps on and it wasnt too bad.... mind you some of the bridleways are very overgrown so have a few scratches on my legs.......
Would only ride bareback or with no stirrups in shorts. Have ridden with shorts before, and the stirrup leathers gave me sores and also got lots of bruises!
I did it once and the stirrup leathers pinched my legs so badly my eyes were watering, had massive bruises for weeks. I ended up getting off and walking.
Well, i did try once but then came back with loads of bruises on my leg where the stirrups pinched me! and i wud neva sit on a hot leather saddle agen wearing shorts! OUCH
