Anyone in the Cheshire area ever taken their horse to ride around Tatton Park ? Any good - worth a Sunday afternoon toot about ?

Yeah I have. I went last November. It's good for just a tootle about. We had a great time until the last blast we had and ended up doing his tendon

Apart from that though if you just want a pleasant hack in very pretty scenery it's worth visiting.

I took my old boy a few years ago, he had a lovely time, we only walked though as he was unfit and has an old injury. It was a real pick me up for us both on a lovely balmy Sunday afternoon.

Word of warning though, it can get busy. (I walk the dogs there every so often and on a sunny day there are lots of people out enjoying the park and lake) We left it late in the day I think the last hour when it quieted down but you might want longer to ride round than that? Like I said we just had a short wander round.

The guy at the Knutsford end gate thought he recongised me ''hello, how are you doing...you're late today’’... so he didn't give me a map! So we proceeded to wander down to the edge of the lake (where I usually walk) and we got a right pompous dog walker shouting at me that I should be up the top. Opps.

Oh and don't forget your money!! When I was a young teenager we hacked our fit ponies a good distance to the Rostherne gate only to realise we didn't have enough money on us and didn't have the guts to barter our way in so we hacked all the way back gutted!!!

Have a lovely time.

I think I'll try it. My old lad is not fit enough to go for miles yet, but its nice to get off the roads and be able to do some faster work in an attempt to burn the fat. Then again, its nice to get away from the lunatic drivers and just tootle at your own pace.

Can anyone recommend nice riding routes / farm rides in Cheshire / Lancs.

I've been to Somerford (excellent), Dean Valley (good), Charity Farm (good x-country, rubbish farm ride) and just recently The Gallops at Tilstone (lovely ground conditions and nice views with some good little jumps) but I am always looking for alternatives.

Can't wait to get out and about at the weekends now the weather is nice. The big guy just loves his trips out.

Peckforton hills...along the sandstone trail - you'll need a map, views are amazing. Around Arley Hall is nice too if you are that side of Cheshire.

My only warning with Tatton is - watch out for the deer! It's the only thing that has every really spooked my little fella!

Other than that it's a very pleasant place to ride

You have to take lorries in the Knutsford gate not the Rosthern one Parking is in a hardcore area just beyond the gate way. The gate way is pretty tight in a lorry ours isn't massive but we only have a few inches spare.
You can only ride in certain areas not the whole park but they give you a map and it's easy to navigate, basically stay left!
Ditto on the Deer only time I've ever been bucked off was when a stag got up as I was cantering past. Every time we go in now my horse thinks every pile of twigs is a potential stag! Also watch out for bunny holes it is quite bad in places.

HI, I used to ride in Tatton alot, not been for afew years though, but great fun.

Also try@ Whitegate way, great for long canters - well was, not been down there for afew years either as I now live about 100miles away!

Cheshire was great for rides out, if you own a box as they're all fairly short drives away.

Enjoy!
