Had a really nice ride in the dark tonight, was out for about 1.5 hours, his lordship got carrot treats on the drive, got wifey to take a couple of pics,
used night mode and firework mode settings, one pic shows reflected light, and one pic my illumination light :), see and be seen ;)

wow... you're so brave for riding in the dark! our hacking is put on hold until spring since horse is not enjoying mud and darkness :)

I don't consider myself brave, I just know my Pony well, I think a lot of people would be surprised at how easy it is and how well behaved their beast would be, it is a little spooky along the river with not much light, but around the street lit housing areas it's a doddle :p

I also find drivers seems to be more courteous for some reason :)

Sorry, i still wouldn't ride out in the dark, no matter how much reflective gear/lights etc I could put on. Still, we don't have any street lights or anything like that round us so it would just be pure stupidity to go out in the dark. I just don't think drivers expect to see you when it's dark. Riding round housing estates is slightly different as there are numerous street lights,

I would if we had street lights! But I would look like the ghost rider with all my hi-vis.

Just one thing, I saw a woman jogging in the dark on my way up to the yard yesterday morning, she was wearing a 'reflective' tabard and a head torch. BUT the headtorch shining towards us was kind of cancelling out the reflective strips on her tabard and because her head torch wasn't hugely bright, fairly average we really didn't see her until we were right behind her !

I presume you haven't had a problem with it, but I would always be careful now

I've bought a small lightweight rear bicycle flashing red LED light from Lidl (sold as a pair, front and back for about £6) It will ultimately (when we get round to hacking in the dark) fasten into a small plait at the top of the tail, plait secured with elastic bands. Have tried it on and it does stay put.

Cool, didn't think about doing a plait and laggy band, what a good idea ;):)

Nowt wrong with riding in the dark as long as you are lit up like a xmas tree, we do it, both in a built up area and a quiet lane, i think we are more visible with all our reflectives on in the dark than we are in the light, i have an amazing headtorch with front and rear lights.

Ponies aren't fussed at all, not spooky or nowt, they have way better eyesight than us in the dark.

I have loads of flashing lights when i hack out in the dark. White on side of horse head (browband), another white on the reflective brestplate, red flashing light on side of my boot, red flashing on the top of a reflective tail guard that has built in flashing LEDs and 2 more attached to the back on a reflective ex sheet. This is as well as a hi vis jacket and hi vis leg things for horse. Oh and arm bands with flashing LEDs as well. Just need something for my hat and anywhere else i can hook them on :D

cyclist lights are really good as well as being cheap, they normally just clip on to the fabric of the ex sheet if not sew some tabs in and hook them on.
I think i take longer to get ready than i do out on a ride  :D
