Hello,
I was thinking about riding my mare in the snow today (in her field), was wondering if vaseline cream would be ok to use on her feet to help prevent clumps of snow building up?
Also was wondering where abouts on her hoofs I would apply this?
Thanks

Yeah, i have already checked her field this morning. As her field is split into sections, the section that she hasn't been in, is untouched and still very soft, but thanks for the warning.

I put vaseline in Dougs hooves. It didnt last long though

When I was young and 'had no fear' I used to ride out in it,without a 'second thought'

however,is it worth it!
If you do we used to use 'old car oil'(Dip it on a rag and wipe round the inside of feet!) which worked really well, and I would carry a hoof pick,to use while I was out!

Yes be careful horses can get frisky in snow or want to roll in it
A hunter I used to have bucked like anything in snow
I can remember riding in quite deep snow down a track which had not been driven down, pony and I were really enjoying it then suddenly she lost her footing in a deep drift pitched forward and I ended up in the snow drift which closed over my head. I had so many clothes on I was stiff and it felt like ages before I fought my way out--I was beginning to panic and the pony had vanished but left tracks to follow and I had a long walk to find her and get home.

iv been out on both of mine this morning and had no probs didnt take them far tho they both found it hard work (and there both really fit)
but as the snow is so deep for some reason it didnt seem to ball at all
