As a friend is in hospital for a second night after a nasty fall from her horse on the road last evening, I thought I would share MY injuries with her, to hopefully make her feel better!

Cracked vertebrae at base of back

Cracked right shoulder blade

Broken foot

Popped ankle

Torn knee ligament

Broken jaw

Lost teeth

.....and several bruises over the couse of the years!

Lets have a 'my bruise is bigger than your bruise' moment!

:D

First of all I hope your friend gets better soon, here are worst ones

Broken arm
Ripped finger off
Lost leg above the knee

i've been very lucky :D

fell off and landed on a car - walked away (eventually, after a few hours in a neck brace) with a bruised hip and cuts on my face and elbow

fell off over a weeny little x-pole - snapped my arm and dislocated my elbow

went through a jump wing - bruised ribs. breathing was rather painful for a few days but i still managed to compete that weekend :p

was given a black eye when a horse decided to headbutt me and been kicked several times - most recently ended up with a huge lump on my forehead when jerry caught me with his front leg :(

Damaged knee when horse fell on it on the road many many years ago when I was a teenager. Don't know what damage, as never had it checked, but it still hurts sometimes now!
Broken arm, nothing to do with horses, fell on the ice BUT damaged the damaged arm when mare pulled back when I was getting off her on a very narrow path and caught my foot on some sheep wire (still wearing splint three years on!)
Not a bad tally for the number of years I have been daft enough to mess about with horses :D

Am I having a thick day, how do you lose a leg "above" the knee??!
Don't you mean "below" the knee?
Oz :)

I ve gotten off quite lightly by the sound of things, broken elbow, concussion (terrifying at the time) broken finger, and a broken arm...but that was after colliding with a wooden horse in the gym...does that one count lol ?

I consider myself very lucky, in 14 years of riding I've broken my foot (fell off) and my hand (kicked by friend's horse - she was aiming for my face lol).
I've had lots of scrapes and bruises as well, but those are my only "proper" injuries!

Presumerably rather than the leg being removed from somewhere between the ankle and knee, it was removed from somewhere between hip and knee. The bit from you hip to your knee, known as the thigh is still part of your leg!

The 'above' 'below' bit relates to where your limb ends so if you loose below the knee, you retain the knee joint but loose your foot and some part of your shin. To loose above the knee you possibly loose some thigh but definatly your knee and shin etc.

Apologies if that clumsy explanation has insulted anyone but I think it's accurate.
