i was thinking about taking the bhs exams to become a riding instructor when i leave school, however i don't know how much i would earn and i would need enough to keep my horses etc so has anyone got any idea how much the average riding school instructor earns?
thanks

Hi,
I freelance and charge £30 per hour. I have my BHSAI Int SM. I also have a small riding school and paid my instructors between £8 - £10 per hour depending on qualifications.
Don't do it to get rich do it cos you love horses!

I worked in a riding school when I qualified BHSAI and will never do so again. It was awful, pay crap and never on time, very monotonous (if thats how its spelt!) and horses never really wanted to play the game so very tedious. Now work freelance and run livery yard plus my own horses alongside this. Whilst I do less teaching, I get much more money for the bit that I do do and can play with horses, riding etc for the rest of the time. My advice is think up and forwards and try to aim higher. If you like riding/competin etc then you'll not be happy in a riding school. Good luck x
