In the West Mids or Staffs area - i am at junct 12 on the M6.

Just wondering if anyone knows any good instructors that have experiance in ex racers.

There was a fab thread on here recently about the way racers "canter" and gallop - and I would love to make sure I am doing things right with my little lad. He is sooooo naughty :) you go for a quick schooling session i.e. lets practice halts.... and before you know it your cantering round the field because its so much fun and the schooling has gone out of the window for yet another night.

Would Leicestershire be too far for you?
Can heartily recommend Ivanhoe Equestrian there. They're very good with any horse, but have a particular interest in ex-racers and have had lots of success with them.
Really genuinely nice people with bags of experience!
If you google Ivanhoe Equestrian you'll find their website :).

Thank you chocolategg - no where is too far really to get some really good help - hopefully he will be with me for a very very long time, he is the horse i have always dreamed of owning - just one to have fun on - like you did as a kid -and he is such a willing little lad I just want him to have the best education i can give him.

Awww :p. Well I'm sure they'd be worth a call. The daughter runs various ex-racehorse workshops, but they both teach too and show in ROR classes (with great success).
They don't seem to advertise so can be a bit hidden if you're not local (it was a friend who found them for me or I'd not have known they existed). But they have a brilliant (and well deserved!) reputation and that seems to sustain them (which I always think speaks volumes for a yard).

I would second Ivanhoe. They have a website if you google them. If you can travel to them you're unlikely to find anyone better. If you really can't get to them then it might be worth giving them a call to see if they can recommend someone in your direction.

Ohh it looks a good place - will give them a call on Tuesday..... it may fit into my plans perfectly as........ i love side saddle too and i just wonder if an ex racer would go well side saddle?????? - may be a bit too quick and sparky but if you dont try you wont find out and tbh he's one of those gems that trys to keep you on board when things go wrong... like it did last night when we sort of did a deer leap as we changed leg at the gallop.... :) such a naughty pony he he he
