Riding lessons near birmingham

So I go to uni in about 3 weeks... eek! Money depending I would really like to continue riding, probably on an ad hoc basis... I'm not going to be taking my car, so it needs to be somewhere that wont cost much/is relatively easy to get to via train/bus/taxi.... The price of lessons is kinda immaterial, in comparison to being able to get there. Thanks guys!!!
 
I don't know whether I'm really on a 'side' I'm pretty much in the centre of town, I'm staying in Opal 1, the address there is Belgrave middlway... and I'm studying in conservatoire, which is right next to the town hall.... hope that helps?

Well i know of a riding school called Bourne Vale, its in Streetly. I think the 113 bus still goes there via Brirmingham city centre.
 
Find out if the University has a Horse Riding team or club as many of them do. If so, they will probably have use of a good riding school with discounted rates and often help with travel arrangements etc... When i went (many moons ago!!) ours had one evening a week where a minibus would take you for lessons, with a range of lessons for different abilities and the chance to compete.
 
Ok - will look up Bourne Vale, do you know f it is online?
And bay tb, I'm going to specialist music college, so extra clubs and stuff don't really exist :L
 
Are you attached to any of the other Birmingham Universities for clubs etc - when I did my legal training (LPC) we were at a separate institution but were counted as part of Oxford Uni for BUCS.

Can highly recommend Bourne Vale and fairly certain there is a bus route that goes from city centre straight past it. The instructors are very good and they have a good selection of horses and ponies.
 
In comparison seecham looks more affordable, £30 for an hour in comparison to £28 for half an hour at bourne vale. Anyone compare the instruction and standards for me? Both have BHS accreditation....

I think West Midlands Travel cover the Wythall/Hollywood/Maypole area. They cover all of the West Midland area and run thousands of services. Easiest way would be to give them a call on Monday and ask, they will have a website.

In the meantime I will ask the owner of the school, who is a good friend of mine, (so trusted that she has one of my horses on loan at the moment) where the nearest bus stop is.

You are in luck, Brook House Riding School is already involved with Birmingham Uni and the riding group attends every Wednesday during term time. You need to contact the riding group at the uni. Good luck and have fun.

That would be great!!! Unfortunately I'm going to the music college, Birmingham conservatoire, who don't run clubs and societies like normal uni's... so I'm on my own for finding a way to ride! So obviously because I'm not part of the university I cant really join their riding group!
 
Ah ! sorry I thought you were at Birmingham UNi. The school will welcome you of course, Shirley train station is a 10 minute walk from the school so you could get on a train at Birmingham New Street or enquire with West Midlands Travel (buses) for info on buses stopping in the Wythall area.
 
If you do go to Brookhouse Jen, tell them Mr. Randy's owner recommended you to them. Don't worry you won't be riding Mr. Randy. He is a 12.2 very handsome, and he knows it, Welsh section A.
 
Hi, I'm in a similar situation except I work in a boarding school. I have tried to contact Brookhouse but they never reply. I have left a message and emailed them! So frustrating. Did you manage to get hold of them in the end? I have been for 2 lessons at a different riding school but didn't enjoy it so looking again.
 
I used to ride at Brook house before i had ginger, then went for a handful of lessons a couple of years ago and I'm sorry to say I wouldn't go back there!

Seecham is a fair way away but they have some very good horses.
