I've booked a riding lesson on my own horse Sunday, I haven't had a riding in nearly 3 years I'm not sure what spurred me to book one, I suppose I know I have my usual bad habits and it's good to have someone nagging you about them from time to time!

It's just got me wondering how often everyone has regular lessons on your own horse, how often and why? Are they to concentrate more on your horse, or your riding or both?

I have one on hovis once or twice a week.
Sometimes I have one (like tonight) on my instructors horse which is much older so I can work on my own position rather than worrying about what Hovis is doing.
my lessons on hovis are a combination of teaching me how to teach him and working on my riding.

Well done you for booking lessons. I recently thought I should do the same and had a lesson a month until Jake went lame and I hurt my back. We will get up and running again soon!

I intend to go back to having monthly lessons to improve my riding and to help benefit my horse.

I hope you enjoy your lesson.

I have two lessons a week, one on a schoolmaster type to work on my riding and one on my own horse which is teaching me to school him (Sometimes my RI rides half).

I have to take them when I can, my trainer is in England competing (and has been since January) luckily shes still coming back quite alot so when she's here between 1-3 a week and then maybe nothing for 4-8 weeks. My YO does come out and help me from time to time but has opposite views bto my trainer - so counter productive!

I tend to have one a fortnight. It is really so I can learn how to get the best out of Jerry. He is much better than me at dressage so I need to learn how to ride him properly! I really enjoy the lessons and have gained a lot from them.
I hope you enjoy your lessons and well done for booking them - it took me a while to pluck up courage to phone an instructor but I am very glad I did!

once a week on my youngster, on my old horse it was twice a week, but my OH didn't know about the 2nd, he only thought I was having 1 a week!

A one hour private lesson a week on my youngster (£60). The main goal is to bring him on correctly, but that is not going to happen unless I am doing the right thing, so it is for both of us. Trainer quite often rides him first so I can get the correct "feel" of a movement after.

If I have spare cash I book a half hour lunge lesson on one of the school horses to concentrate soley on me.

I wouldn't go more than a few weeks without having a lesson or I get too lazy and hence so would the horse!
