I'm going on holiday to Loch Lomond in a few weeks time and wondered if anyone had any experience of anywhere good to go riding?

I'd like to do more than just a trek with a load of novice tourists but I don't mind what. I'd quite fancy somewhere where I could experience some cross country because I've never done it but would always like to. Other options might be western or an icelandic, both of which I've done before and really enjoyed.

I don't mind a bit of a drive to somewhere thats worth going to, any suggestions?

Hi I grew up in Balloch where Loch Lomond meets the river Leven, haven't been there for over ten years but we always rode at the Lomondside Stud near Drymen owned by Liz and Pat Rennie, who are fantastic instructors and reguallary judge at top shown inc hoys etc. Sure they'd sort you out a nice hack or something and only 30 mins away from Balloch. They have a website.

Hi,

I went to a place called Brenfield when I was a kid- near Ardrishaig, prob about an hour from you. We swam in the loch one day with the horses, then had an xc lesson the next. lots of fun, good hacking, nice horses and people.

They have a website, www.brenfield.co.uk

arrgh, unfortunately Brenfield would be a two hour drive from where we are staying but that is exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for, beach gallop and swim would be amazing.

Brenfield is a super place to ride I keep my horse there, a more realistic time is probably near 1.5 hours if you don't know the roads, but they do all sorts riding. It is very possible there and back in a day, we often do Glasgow in a day.

You'd see some fantastic scenery on the way up as well! Just make sure you apply your midgie repellant.

It's well worth it just for the swimming! Not a great fan of water myself, but it's not your normal beach sandy gallop thru the surf...it's kinda like "oh, see that little pin prick house on the other side of the loch? well, point at that and keep swimming til you get there!!" defo well worth the trip....
