We're going on holiday to butlins in minehead in a few weeks and I was thinking about going for a ride while the other half plays with the kids for a bit. Anyone have any recommendations? Was looking at burrowhayes farm maybe. PM if you prefer! Thanks :)

Yes can reccomend burrowhayes actually stayed there in a caravan. their 4 hour ide wil take you up to Dunkery Beacon fantastic feeling cantering throuth the heather! went on their 2 hour hack which took us across the road to the beacon not far from minehead. really nic people and relaxed.

Don't know if Periton Park is still going? That's probably the closest to Minehead and the horses were nice, as were the rides. If you're reasonably competent, there was a yard a Timberscombe, just a small place with some nice, mainly ex-race horses. Nice rides over the moor from them too.

It has been a while since I went there though. Other place is Cloud Farm, can't remember where though-somewhere in the Doone Valley I think.

I rode at Burrowhayes over 25 years ago  Yikes, do I feel old?!!

Periton Park is now a livery yard only, so the nearest riding stables is probably Burrowhayes. Allerford Farm Park do riding for more experienced people. Burrowhayes is less expensive (£19 per hour or £35 for 2 hours, as opposed to £30 per hour at Allerford). I haven't been out with Burrowhayes myself but I have seen their horses out hacking and they look very nice and sensible. Summer has arrived in Minehead today...hope it holds on for you! I can recommend a drive over Exmoor to Lynmouth if you want to see Exmoor ponies, or there is an open-top bus which goes there, which is great fun & kids love it. Which reminds me, there is an Exmoor Pony Centre, which does rides out on Exmoor ponies, but they are further out of Minehead. I would go for Burrowhayes! Enjoy! x

I would also recommend Burrowhayes. Lovely people and horses last time I went. When I first started going to Burrowhayes I had hardly ridden before and they were really sympathetic to the nervous rider. Hope you have a fab time!
