I live within a horse box ride of Cannock Chase and have never ridden there. To be honest, I don't know where to park, which routes to take etc etc. I'm going to invest in an OS map of the area and do a bit of online research, but does anyone on here have any hints and tips to get me started, where to park, routes, general dos and donts etc etc. All help much appreciated.

Thanks all .....

I am like you Altho have been once I parked in a car park just down from shugborough heading as if you were going towards rugeley on the right hand side on a bend. I also think there are a few places to park if you go to Milford common and then turn up opposite the pub and go up that road. But I too need to get a map so will watch this thread for any tips!

I always parked at the Punch Bowl car park near Milford. It's right at the northern tip of the Chase, so easy to get back to if you get lost, which is easy to do.

That's the same car park as me! Never new what it was called- I think the other road is Brockton road that has a few parking places.
It is very easy to get lost tho!! I normally walk a few routes with dogs then go and ride them

Think this is a good idea ... going for a pre-ride recce before just arriving with horses in tow only to have no idea where to park/ride etc .... my dog needs a long walk ....

I can't really comment much on the parking (other than to say I know there is plenty), but it is an absolutely fab place to ride (lots of places for a good canter). I can see how you could easily get lost though (not that I have to worry about that as I don't have my own horse and just ride at the trekking centre) so definitely get a good map!
