I am looking to treat myself to something different for my birthday and have always fancied a good fast hack across a moor. Based in Cornwall so will travel up as far as Dartmoor or Exmoor.
Anyone have any personal recommendations?
I own my own horse so am experienced so therefore a, looking for something other than the single file kind of trekking.
Or any other horse riding experiances you recommend?
Thanks :-)

If you want fast would suggest moors not the place to go. Get a map & a buddy, then just explore the marked bridleways. If you go to Dartmoor, Meldon parking area very good (also has loos), straight out onto moor. But get there early or will be filled with walkers cars. Loads of horsey b&b on Exmoor (cater for Golden Horseshoe each year). If you want the safety net of an organised ride, do the pleasure ride class at golden horseshoe (Exmoor). Above all be sensible. Look at the weather, if there is a chance of a white out it is not the right time to go exploring. Treat the moors with respect.

My boyfriend and I rode here last year on holiday in Dartmoor.
They get you to ride round in the arena first so they can see if your opinion of your ability actually matches your ability! I'm glad they did, as I'd said I like fast things. I had a pocket rocket on loan at the time) so they put me on something very forward going...but it wasn't the type I feel very happy on, so I asked if I could swap. They were more than happy to get me something else to try, and I ended up on a lovely Highland laddie called Winston (I thought how could any horse called Winston not be nice!). It was just the two of us, and the lady who took us out who was one of those types who would be terrifying as your instructor but she was very lovely :)

I agree with pip6 though- we did have some very nice canters, it wasn't fast fast because of the terrain.

Oh, you might want the website! :p

(I think it was this one. Unless there are two in Widdicombe-on-the-Moor!)
