we have access land on open moorland

Are horses allowed on access land? I was under the impression that it was walkers only. A lot of our local access land (NY Moors) tries to ban dogs, let alone horses. Even up on the moor we stick to rights of way and the odd bit of land where a landowner has explicitly allowed access for horses. Happy to be corrected though!

I also stick to the trails/bridleways when riding.

Usually we can walk where we like (on foot) but open access is closed for the foreseeable.

Sorry, I didn't mean to pee on your parade, I really envy you that riding. Your post was great it's a shame you felt you needed to delete it. I just didn't want people getting into trouble going riding across the moors believing they had open access rights when they generally don't. Unlike those lucky devil's in Scotland, who do!

Aw I missed your photos. I'm glad you had a nice ride and managed to get nice photos.

Scotland's not the bee all and end all when it comes to access, it sounds like we have miles of access which to an extent we do, but, a lot of it is farmland which out of courtesy you would never ride on unless with permission of the farmer. Likewise with private estates. Hills can be bogs/peat generally dangerous unless you know the way and then it depends on time of year.
