Would you?

I won't, I think it is too dangerous, even in hi vis with lights.

But, I've just seen someone go out from a yard near me, OK she had a washed out looking hi vis exercise rug, and the usual tabard, no lights though and it is really foggy here this morning. All the cars have full lights blazing, including fog lights, so visibility is pretty low.

Just wondered what everyone else thinks?

No. I was hoping to hack this morning but even after turning out, mucking out and hay nets it still hadn’t lifted. Giving it another hour, if it’s lifted we will go out but if not we will just go for an arena ‘hack’/stretch.

She is an idiot, with no thought for her own or her horse's safety.

I remember one occasion when sister and I were hacking out before work, we tacked up and set off in drizzly weather, then the fog came down, we literally went round the 10 minute block, up the back of about 10 houses and down the front to get back home, because we couldn't see properly ourselves and we thought no-one would be able to see us. That road is a no-through road and very quiet but still not worth the risk.

Thanks everyone.

When she came back, the fog was still with us, but I clearly heard her complaining to a fellow livery who was just arriving in her car that she couldn't understand why cars were passing so close and faster than usual - duh, it's because they couldn't see you (smacks forehead in frustration)

Depends where. I would ride my usual routes as they're all sub 20mph where any motorist would have to be alert for parked cars, pedestrians etc, or single track roads where your visibility is limited to the next corner, so everything is already going pretty slow and expecting to have to stop at any time.

On a 'normal' road, no I wouldn't.

Nope, not on the road. If the visibility is really poor, I just stay on the bridleway network. We've had folk going out in it without even any hi vis on - one girl has taken to leading her horse out wandering down the middle of the road at twilight with no lights, no hi vis, and dark clothing / rugs / horse :o

You can just get caught out fog lays in hollows I have ridden down a busy country road for a short while because the road slowly drops from out stable. but I also knew it would be clear for the way home a couple of hours later after riding in the wood
