Hi we have a Welsh B pony, not had him long but took him to two shows and he has won 4 classes out of 5. We are talking local unaffiliated. We would like to do some more shows but I am having trouble deciding whether he is more a riding pony or a hunter. He is quite dainty for a B in fact several people have asked if he is an Arab. How would you choose-some shows won't let you do both. He is older and he has won both his veteran classes but we would like to enter some other classes too.

Also-what is a "sports pony"?

Thanks :)

It sounds like he is more of a riding pony though most B's would normally make good hunter ponies.

Unless the classes clash there is no reason why you cant try both classes and see what feedback and results you get - plenty of ponies doing this, some of them at a very high level. It can be frowned upon as the two types should be clearly different but no harm done in seeing where he naturally falls in the early days

I dont think there are any official rules regarding entering both classes

Sports ponies should be athletic, a required task may involve tight turns at trot or canter to show sure footed balanced change of direction. They are basically looking for a pony that could compete at a high level

Hi thanks for replies, he is a very beautiful pony but too Araby probably to win straight small breeds, I think I will try him in different classes as suggested and take it from there, his movement is probably more RP than HP but he might find his forte in Sports Pony as he is beautifully schooled and balanced and muscular.
