had a mild one last week, nice shiny stent in (well I assume they are shiny) and back home....hugely impressed by the hospital. Must admit I'm feeling a bit weaker than I thought I would be, still just having pottery dog walks and quietly bringing in and feeding.

Obviously will be advised by the medics, but would be interested in how long other people have taken to get going again...in fact any re-hab tips and tricks would be good!

Thanks!

Oh god Turnbuckle, hope you're OK? My hubby had a mild one 2 years ago, and although he's not a rider, it did take him a couple of months to get back up to speed. They advised him to get out walking almost immediately.

OH had one a few years back and it took him a while but his general level of fitness wasn't great to start with.

I think it is really one of those things where you need to listen to your body and take it steady, without completely resorting to the armchair! I suspect the best way to tackle it is the way you would rehab a horse - little and often and gradually building up over time.

There having been a few sufferers in my family, I don't think there is any reason you should be "back to normal" in good time and you may even feel better now than you did before.

Gosh I'm sorry to hear this but glad you were treated quickly and are now on the mend. I think your body will tell you more than the medics about getting back to normal again. Hope you are fully better soon.

No idea on riding but a family member had one in his mid 40s, mainly through stress. One small stent put in. He was very tired for about 2 months and after that, he recovered very quickly and was back playing football within 5 months of it happening. He followed slow and steady training, mixing running and swimming, as well as walking every day.

He quit his job that day, which the doctor thinks helped.

He managed another 6 seasons of weekly football before his knees gave out, and now does veterans cycling and swimming so it's not affected his fitness levels.

Hope you feel better soon

Please ask your doctor before riding, I believe stents have to have time to settle in so they do not move. I am sure after the given time you will be back enjoying your horse. My friend who was very healthy and fit has just had one and she is feeling quite delicate still after 3 weeks but slowly getting better.
You should be invited back to a post heart attack exercise class soon and they will give you advice about riding ect.

Brilliant, thanks for all kind words. Nice to know that I seem to be recovering at roughly the normal rate! Now to shake the cold I seem to have picked up :)

A heart attack is a warning that your body is struggling. Listen to it, and don't set unrealistic deadlines or compare yourself to others. Don't underestimate how tired and crabby a serious ailment can leave you, either. All the best.

Ou dear OP? Sorry to hear about that :( I work primarily in A&E but have the odd encounter with those working in CCU(where you would have been stented).

You will or should be getting an appointment through to attend Cardiac Rehab. (bunch of lovely helpful nurses and PT/OT''s specialising in Cardiovascular system). They will explain your RPE(rate of perceived exertion) which is an estimate of how hard your body is working to do certain things. It should help you judge how hard to push yourself- which will be a good tool for you :)
For now I would stick to light exercise ie walking the dog. You don't want to risk any further damage.
