What a great idea:

With all the H&S riding schools have to live with, it's fab to see that ponyless kids (as I was) have a chance to hunt and really enjoy their riding. My riding school (Golden Castle in Llangattog) would take some of the riding school ponies hunting and it's a thoroughly brilliant idea. It was great for the kids to have the experience and the ponies got a chance to have a good razz

Plus it's a good income for the RS. I wish more places would do it.
(Have cross posted this)

Yes it is a good idea and a really safe way in which to get children used to hacking and jumping and generally having fun with the safety of adults on hand.
I don't know about hirelings but I do know that the riding school I learned to ride at when I was ten in around 1982-83 called the Westlands Riding school ( since closed down and developed into a housing estate sadly) used to have hunters. I don't know if these horses were used in the school as well but know they did hunt with them. I was a little young at the time to know all the ins and outs involving these horses but I know they had some fantastic looking ones.

As i said in NL used to ride at Deni's riding school when it was on a different site. She has a bigger site now but she always had some wonderful ponies, taught me a lot. Unfortuanlty was never chosen to go hunting at the time. She often does the boxing day and christmas eve hunts with the little boy mentioned it's always such a sweet site.

I think it's great, but it isn't a new idea. The riding school where I worked hired out hunters for children and adults, and would send an instructor out with them if requested. We ended up stopping it, because the insurance to cover it was a huge amount over and above the regular riding school policy (which covered our cross country course).

I was able to go cubbing a few times with other kids from Newark Equestrian Centre in the late 70's early 80's. We'd go out with the Blankney & the Belvior. Great fun. The riding school popnies loved it.
