Just been looking at these at a local centre near me (is very good place with great facilities).

A private lesson is £32/hour with an intermediate instructor.
But then you pay for the hire of the horse, which is £35

Making it £67 an hour.

Is it just me or is that really expensive?

That's London pricing! Nuts IMO

Thats more like it, mines £20 if i went to my instructors yard but because she comes to the liv. yard i keep my horse at its £25 and shes a very good teacher!

Hmmm... I want to have a couple of lessons on a horse other than my own (to sort out a particular SJ issue I have).

This seems really expensive to me but I am not sure the other riding schools in my area will do lessons at the level I want.

I normally pay £25 per half hour for my instructor (who is an ex olympic SJ) - ok so it is my own horse but is at a local comp centre and he is pretty good.

£67 is an awful lot of money. Especially for just the intermediate instructor.

Yes.

I have been there before (did a short course with Chris Bartle a few years ago) that was ££££ but then I was paying for his time, which is fair enough.

Would like to go there again as the standard is really high, but that is so much money. I could have nearly 3 lessons on my own horse for the equivalent.

That's funny, I've got a new job in Harrogate and will be moving up next week to the Thirsk area. I was checking out local riding centres becasue my 3yo will be turned away for the winter, so I was looking for somewhere to have lessons. I spotted those prices and couldn't believe that anyone could afford that!! I'm looking into finishing my Stage 2 at Askham Byram (sp?) now instead as that will give me something to aim for and isn't ridiculously expensive.

Askham Bryan is very good actually.
Not sure they do private/non student lessons so no good for me.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks YRC is expensive!
Imagine if you wanted to learn to ride there or have lessons weekly.

I used to have polo tuition for £50 an hour & I thought THAT was expensive. lol

I think it's £48 for 45 mins private at my London RS! Mind you, most places here in London are far more. I think Hyde Park stables are £59 for a hour's group lesson and I've not heard good things about the standard - one of my instructors used to work there.

No way I would want to pay £67 in Yorkshire unless it was with Chris Bartle himself!

i pay 8 euro for an unqulified instructor to do a shared lesson and 25 euro for a qualified one...67 pounds is rediculous!

Thats ridiculous - even when you hire a dressage schoolmaster with a top dressage trainer its only that much - they are taking the mick.

I was just about to say my schoolmaster lesson with Hannah Moody on her horse was £65 for about an hour ( it felt longer!!

Thats daylight robbery!!!!!

A local well respected riding shool and competion centre near me is £20 an hour.......includes the horse obviously

Our RS in N Wales is £20 group with horse or £10 just instruction on own ned ....... we are lucky its a good small school with quality horses and ponies and a pony club centre and BHS aproved...Beach ride in morning.........

ours is well priced....£20 for childs half hour, £9 for tots trot, and 22.50 for adult half hour...thats all they get used for pretty much, whole hour is 25....so i'd say that pricing is way too steep!! - ouch

Yikes. Seriously expensive, for not a lot of value for money me thinks, not compared to others.

Instructors round here (on your own horse) are between £20-£30 per hour-ish. One guy charges £50, but he stays as long as needs be

I go to a riding school once a week - costs £24 for a group lesson (usually about 4 - 6 riders but have been times when only 2 riders). I also have a private lesson every couple of weeks usually on my horse but sometimes on their horses. It's £45 on mine and £50 on their horses. Had looked into YRC when we thought our present riding school was closing down and we would need a replacement in the future (thank god hasn't happened yet!) but with my OH having lessons too it looked a bit too expensive. My riding school is just over Derbyshire border.
