There is a riding school up the road that has got Strangles and is still open!! Also the owner is taking her horse out to venues!!!! Can I get into trouble if I name the school on this forum?

Hmm think it best not to name it, as it could be construed as slander, esp as it's your word against theirs (not that I disbelieve you, just think you have to be careful).

You could say where you live perhaps and if people nearby are concerned they could pm you.

It might depend how the strangles outbreak is being managed - if the outbreak was perhaps only in one area of the RS, it could have been isolated, and provided adequate provisions for keeping the infection contained eg restricting staff movements within the isolated area, use of footbaths, cancelling events and no ponies travelling in or out of the RS etc are kept, then there is no reason the RS should have to close - my daughter's lessons continued at a RS that had a Strangles outbreak with almost no disruption, I think there were a couple of lessons cancelled due to riding holiday pupils getting priority on pony's hours in the school holidays, and they were low on pony numbers presumably due to the fact they couldn't bring more ponies in for the season, or perhaps they had some on isolation due to being in quarantine if suspected they'd had contact with the ones that did have the illness.

In your RS case I would still have expected horse movements in and out of the RS should have been suspended. Are you sure it really IS strangles and not a rumour? I'd not name and shame, you could get yourself in bother if it isn't.

Its possible that they are doing this quite "legitimately". A RS near us last year had the same problem, the strangles was based on and isolated on one yard (the liveries) and the rest of the place was able to carry on as normal subject to strict rules on cross contamination and rigorous disinfecting. There were no further problems...

I dont think there is any way they can manage it and still send out horses. My horses had strangles many moons ago, and having lost a youngster to it, i would not wish the same on anyone.

It is insanely contagious, and i think it is irresponsible to risk exposure to any other horses. I realise that they have a business to run, and may not be able to survive 3+ months of closure, but its the only way to stop the spread of the disease, just my opinion please dont beat me down.
