I am the lessons captain of our university riding club (for all my sins!) and as the title says have to organise the lessons. Now i have a problem, we are currently at Barleyfields which is £22 for an hours group lesson (which i think is reasonable) but everyone says its too expenisve and no one is signing up for lessons.

So does anyone know of any cheap riding schools within 20 miles of Sutton Bonington, Loughborough (notts uni campus)? Or places that offer a discount if you sign up to a lesson every week with a certain amount of people in? We went to Barleyfields as they have a good level of horse and instruction as well as a high level of care, but all people seem to care about is the cost

quite sad really - i would rather pay a bit more for a decent level of horse but hey, they dont seem to care about that!

I know my yard (Elms farm) offer lessons but they dont have many horses (is a small scale lovely one) and only offer semi private/private lessons to people who are just learning to ride. Bunny Hill is too expenisve for these students!! But looks lovely.

Thank you in advance!!

Ivanhoe equestrian used to do the univeristy of nottingham riding lessons! The yard manager there used to go the Notts!

she is really nice and they have loads of different horses. (they are in ashby de la zouch)
Don't know if they still will be able to do it, but sure its worth an ask!

they are really hte only other one that I know of being any good near here.
if they can't accomodate I am sure htey will be happy to suggest others!

my friend was part of the riding club when she was on campus.
Id have joined but Im rather competitive (apparently rather is an understatment...... ho hum!

) so wanted to join the riding team of uni but its just a bit of a trek trying to get to main campus and back every day AND do the vet course.

Is the lesson at barleyfields £22pp? or £22 in total?!! They do have good horses, good facilities etc and so unfortuantly I agree that if they want cheaper lessons (I dont know if Ivanhoe will be much cheaper!) if they will then complain about quality!!
It is really difficult as often quality comes with a price! especially with horses............. this is why my friend stopped going to the club for a bit as she got really frustrated with it!
are there none near east leake or that way?

£22 a lesson per person, like all riding schools. They wont give a discount (fair enough they have enough buisness its a good riding school). The cheapest i can find is 2 at £20 and one only has horses that from the photos look like they should be RSPCA cases

Did you make the team?? Or did you say its too far?
Ellie (team captain) is a vet student and so are a few of the team mebers, they drive people up there etc when they go, they also train at barleyfields, where our lessons are!! Can you tell i helped out last year?! They train once a week and do comps a few times a year so its not too bad timewise, but its bleeding hard to make the team!!

And no only my yard (Elms farm) is a riding school in costock (near east leake) and like all the other small scale ones doesnt have enough horses to run group lessons of 6+ adults

! Just a random aside

Definatly try Ivanhoe Equestrian Centre. Emma the yard manager is a friend of mine and she is lovely. Elsbeth ( Emma's mum ) is the main teacher and she is brilliant. Really knows her stuff.
