Can anyone recommend a riding school for a 7 year old beginner in the York Area.

Thanks

There is Sicklinghall riding school between Wetherby and Harewood, although not sure if that is too far?

Don't know any others closer to York sorry.

Lacy's Cottage Riding School at Scrayingham is run by Chris and Nicky Pimlott their number is 01759 371586. They are both excellent teachers. Chris is absolutely fantastic with the younger children and never forgets their names. The children love him. They also employ other teachers at the weekends and Rebecca Tarry in particular is also the most wonderful teacher for youngsters - a real confidence giver.
I think they have about forty horses and ponies, they match the ponies to the children and give them experience of different ponies, when the child develops they get the more forward ponies.
The school also holds regular 'pony days' for all children and summer camp for 8 year olds upwards. I think the costs at the moment are £8 for half an hour and £14 for an hour, their beginner lessons tend to be on Saturday and Sunday mornings. It is very professional, the lessons always start on time. Parents can stay at the side of the arenas and watch, it is quite relaxed and friendly and it's easy to strike up conversation with other parents. When your daughter progresses there is also a cross country course. It is extremely popular and sometimes they have a waiting list but once you come regularly there's no problem booking, now would be good time to start I think, before the inevitable September rush.
My only criticism of the school is the weather - it's always a few degrees colder there than in the rest of the York area- bring warm clothes for yourself if you want to watch and 20p for the hot drinks machine.

I agree with Tinselface, Hilcroft farm in Sicklinghall is fab, might be a bit of a trek but it is worth it. The best riding school I've been too, can't praise it enough.
