Hi,I posted in regional a couple of days ago, but no replies, so.....

A colleague has an 11 YO daughter who would like to learn to ride. They are prepared to pay for private lessons, and also to do some travelling. Any recommendations for a good riding school near the area where South/East/ West and North Yorkshire meet?

There's a place in Sicklinghall which always gets highly recommended, Yvonne Lowther is name of owner. They definitey do children's lessons, or did last time I heard! It may be too far for them: it's west of Wetherby.

Thank you Teacups.

It is a family who likes to do things right. They know I do private lessons, but sadly not on my own horses, only on people's own horses. I do know that when OH started to ride we tried 5 local schools, and even those that were BHS approved were dire for him. I am hapless when trying to recommend as I don't use them!

I feel his pain.
The horse I have been riding is currently out of action and will be for some time. I was thinking of having some lessons somewhere, as I don't have my own horse. My experiences at one local place have also been a bit depressing, and it's definitely put me off.
If you could pm me the names of the places your OH tried, I'd be grateful - or post them up here: if one place is bad for one it may not be bad for another, of course!

ETA: haven't checked regional board for a few days, or I'd have replied there.

Naburn is very good, easy to get to and they do private lessons and do pony club as well on their horses.

Thank you all, I think I will recommend Naburn to start with as it is very local to them. Teacups, I have sent a PM, but it was many years ago so out of date.

Acrecliffe nr Otley? It is yrs since I've been but they used to do side-saddle lessons. The proprietor (whose name completely escapes me, Anne Something-or-other), competed side-saddle to a high level. The RS did have a very good reputation.

Middleton park, south Leeds do lessons, I can't give any personal recommendation but have heard good things. They do a lot of RDA work, so will have horses for total beginners, adults as well as children.
