currently in the process of building my own outdoor school and can not make my mind up on surfaces. i have looked at spring ride shred as a rubber surface on top of sand also mc collins pre mixed waxed activ-track also been on equestrian direct and had a look at their flexi ride. right now im looking at the Leisure Ride Group who also do pre mixed surfaces. the only ones within my price range from them would be their non waxed all sports or pro sports surfaces. does anyone have any experiance with these surfaces or perhaps know of a better surface?? any oppinions would be greatly appreciated

I have no experience of these surfaces or the companies you mention but there was a thread on here a couple of days back mightily slagging off Equestrian Direct (and MCollins doesn't seem to come out much better on other threads!)so might be an idea to give as much thought to the supplying company as to the actual surface :) Soz can't help any more&good luck with your new school:)

Please do not go to the expense of a waxed surface.
I had this problem with my yard and years on their was no need.
Waxed surfaces are needed with in barns to stop dust but outside you will need to rewax every few years.
Fibra and rubber will giv you the best surfase with 150mm of sand base of a silicone sand only
Put your money into the base and correct drainage system not the surface

An Andrews Bowen waxed surface...Or Martin Collins wax surface..... In my opinion they are the best , if money is no object.

Have to agree with Rob. You can chuck any amount of money you like at the surface but if the sub-base and drainage aren't right it will not work.

anyone got opinions on sand and fibre as a surface for outdoor??? thinking of buying one premixed although cant decide between that or sand topped with spring ride shred (rubber). waxed surfaces deffinatly seem to be out of my price range but i do agree that with indoor schools they are the way to go! does any one have trouble with these sand and fibre surfaces that the sand blows around to much? my manager seems to be obsessed with the thought of eating grit.

At lakeside I put in two schools one fibre and one rubber and i can advise that each school has differant maintenance for each surface.

Rubber and sand needs a regular gate harrow but fibra and sand requires power harrowing as the fibra will come to the surface in dry weather and will need digging in to the sand as the rains come again.

I put a fibra school in first and a rubber school second beleiving that rubber was old fashioned.
What do the clients love the most RUBBER it gives abit of a bounce!

I hate rubber topped arenas. They need leveling ecstatic day or the rubber sombre away from the sand and becomes deep. It flicks up in canter and with horses with a big action and can cause them to spook. Oh and in the sun like today it makes working in the school a nightmare as it absorbs the heat. Nice surface to fall on though! ;)
