Anyone got any recommendations? Sister would like to take Mum down for her birthday which they have done before but weren't that impressed with the stables they used so thought would see if you lovely lot had any recommendations :D

A few years ago now, I went to Outovercott Riding Stables which is near Lynton.

Had some fantastic riding, around the Valley of the Rocks area and also a good hoon on open moorland.

Was very impressed that they tailored the ride to the ability-level of those on it, with the novices being taken off on a slower ride and those of us wanting to gallop being taken on to the open moorland.

The yard had a nice relaxed feel to it and the horses were all good and fit and obviously well looked after.

Got the impression they're an old Exmoor family business - riding stables like they used to be when I was a kid basically :)

VERY impressed. Thoroughly recommend.

If you fancy proper Exmoor riding on Exmoor ponies (they take up to 12st) then you should visit the Exmoor Pony Centre - home of the Moorland Mousie Trust - they are based just next to Winsford Hill and you can hack out straight onto moorland amongst the free living ponies :)

Plus it's a registered charity so monies will be going towards the future of moorbred exmoor foals :)

I didn't realise they did riding out as well, I'll see how sister is doing atm, I'd be too much sadly (hence the welsh cob instead of an exmoor ;) )

Well even if you aren't riding there - it's always a fab place to visit to see the exmoor youngsters that they have and you can sometimes do handling activities with them too as they are being socialised :)

Brendon Manor - Rode with them when twice I was 15, then when I was 25. So that means I'm due for a repeat visit in 2 years time.
Rode with my OH when I was 25, I queried the horse they allocated my very novice OH and they changed his mount no questions or arguments.
On the downside two of my three rides were in the pouring rain.

My brother and I had a good ride there a few years ago. He hadn't been on a horse for 10 years so sadly no hooning, but they matched us up with horses very well, I had a nice youngster and they had something tall enough and sensible enough for my brother. Even at walk and a bit of trot the countryside was interesting so we didn't get bored, my brother found fording a fairly deep river quite exciting.

Daughters and I hacked out with them a couple of years ago. Great location and nice hosses.
