Riding with one shoe missing?

Hi there, just wondering if any of you has taken their horse out on short hack with only three wheels on wagon? My farrier cannot come til at least end of next week (his wife died) and although I am foregoing a 21 km ride on sunday (sounding calm but not really!!! :-( ), I was thinking perhaps a quick scoot around block wouldn't do too much harm. I don't feel I can get another farrier in, I'd feel pretty bad doing that!, tho I was tempted!! What do you think? I have no hoof boots so can't pop one of those on. Other three shoes also look pretty ready to vanish too!! I can stay more or less in stubble fields or grass.
 
Hmm.

Wouldn't recommend it to be honest. Another livery on my yard did that and although their horse had a shoe missing for a week (front I think) the farrier could tell from the state of the horses foot and gave said livery a right royal telling off.

If it's front, then no, I really wouldn't ride at all, it's not worth risking injury to your horse. If it's a back shoe your horse has lost, could you not take the other back shoe off too? You'd probably be ok to ride then.

My horse pulled a front shoe off when I was cantering in a field last night. My stupid fault, it was boggier then I thought it was, otherwise I wouldn't have cantered him there. My farrier is already booked to come next Wednesday, so I'm going to spend the time I'm not riding to do various things with him such as spook busting by setting up an obstacle course in the school to lead him round, and if he's not too footy I might long rein him round the grassy tracks at my yard for something different to do.
 
Gosh your poor farrier, he would probably appreciate a few of his clients using a new farrier for a one off, he has more important things on his mind than a list of people piling up??

I have ridden minus a shoe , but only in the field X
 
Yes it's so sad about his wife, he is absolutely devastated but he said that he'd like to be back in work by the end of next week to keep his mind off things. I did look into other farriers but most around here(aberdeenshire), have to travel a long way. One comes from Glasgow!! I feel he needs my support and think he'd be a bit upset if I use someone else-much as I'd like to!!!! I do have another hairy beast to ride my sweet haffy boy so all's not lost but he's far too unfit and barefoot for such a long ride:-(
