Came back to my lovely horse today (only owned him since easter) after a break of nearly 3 weeks in France.

I have done quite a lot of schooling and ride him daily and he was very fit and responsive before I left. I thought I'd come back and find him fat and get on him and discover the same spooky Arab boy I bought, but...

He came cantering across the field the moment I stood at the gate, shoved his nose into the headcollar and was just a dream to ride, fresh but no spooking - just went for a road hack and I could just feel that he was happy too.

First horse I've ever had (after 30 years of wanting one) and he is so lovely. Very soppy post but I am incredibly lucky. Got my absolute dream horse and he just gets better and better.

This reminds me of my old boy if he didnt go out for a while he always behaved impeccably ..my theory was he thought he better be good or he may never leave his field ever again!

Ahh, that's so nice!

I came home after a fortnights holiday a few years ago to see my horse eagerly stareing at me through his window, little ears pricked tight... ran up to see him, boy was he grumpy, ears back, bum planted firmly at the door, making me pay for leaving him! He sulked at me for three days before he finally came around!

Spot the risk, is yours a cat, or is that quite normal horse behaviour?

This being my first horse, I just hadn't expected it to be quite such a reciprocal loving relationship. He's not soppy, he spends most of his time head butting me or using me as a scratching post, but he obviously approves of me and I'm very touched.
