riding your horse while having liverpool treatment for sarcoids

As title , my boy had first trreatment for sarcoids yesterday , he will have another on wednesday and friday then next week sarcoids have swelled up allready vet said no riding 24 hours after treatment .Just wondering what others did ,etc,

mine only had a small one on his inner thigh. i carried on riding him as usual after a couple of days because nothing dramatic really happened to it. eventually after 3mths it dropped off.
 
I think it depends on the horse mine was put on Bute whilst he was having the treatment to keep the swelling down as it was on his sheeth, I used to give him a couple of days off after each treatment. My mums horse had one and you couldnt ride him at all until they dropped off as he is a wimp ....Lol !!!:)
 
I didn't ride mine for 24 hours after the first treatment, she found it really painful and was lashing out in the box with her ears flat back - totally out of character.
 
No riding on day of treatment, but fine other times think it depends where it is have to say after only one week after the last treatment the sarcoid fell off, leaving a huge hole!
 
I agree with the overall sentiment - advice depends on the location of the sarcoid and possibility to rub cream onto healthy unaffected skin during exercise.

This is something to be minimised ideally and if the sarcoid is in the armpit or sheath area I'll often advise avoiding exercise for a few days to minimise cream rubbing off where it shouldn't.

Overall, there is no reason why the horse can't remain in work though if this is not a problem and you are not going to come into contact with cream accidentally either!!

Sunny had a small sarcoid on his face where the cheek piece of the bridle may have rubbed. He had 4 treatments, 4 days apart each time. Didn't ride him whilst he was having the treatment as the bridle would have rubbed the area further. But as soon as he didn't have gooey cream on his face and the dodgy patch had dried, I sewed a small piece of sheepskin over the relevant bit of the bridle and rode him as normal. TBH you would never have known he was having treatment - he was completely unbothered by it from start to finish, but then Sunny is a text book patient and a sweetheart about everything.
 
Our mare treated last November, 5 treatments over about a week. No side effects and my daughter rode her during this time. Both have gone-fingers crossed she'll get no more. Hope your treatment goes well.
 
One of my old boys was treated with Liverpool cream for a nasty ulcerated sarcoid on inside of foreleg. Had 7 applications over 10 days and was on bute throughout but he was still fine to ride, it didn't seem to bother him at all. Didn't ride on day of applications but Prof. Knottenbelt said it would be ok to ride as the movement would also help to keep the swelling to a minimum.
 
hes had two treatments now he was sedated twice as trying to kick the area near his sheath i rode him after 24 hours of treatment and he was fine hard not to worry though another three to go one on friday two next week
