Has anybody had this done recently and can give me a ball park figure on cost? Bonus points for a price from leahurst! The quote my very lovely vet gave me this morning (after what we thought was going to be a simple castration turned out to be an absolute nightmare, so after being put to sleep my poor boy is still entire 🙈) seems less than I imagined after wading through the Internet

I'm waiting on a call back hence why I posted, they seem to be a bit shy giving a price. The price my vet thought it would cost at leahurst seems a lot cheaper than I was expecting 🤷‍♀️

Hmm they shouldn't be shy with prices 🤔, but I di think it will be a range say £xxxx - £xxxx as think it will depend where the testes are as sometimes they are just up in the abdomen other times they are very high and hidden.
What price has your vet given?
I believe Cotts in Narberth are very cheap for rig surgery so guess other hospitals maybe as well?

I haven't had it done, but when I bought Rigsby, he wasn't called that but his passport stated he was a rig! So, before purchase, I called a horse hospital and, like you, was surprised at how reasonable the cost was. I bought him, and did a blood test, that showed the passport was inaccurate. All I had to do was get a statement off the vet with the blood result and the passport was changed.

So, I Yorkshire, I too was surprised at the low cost. I can't remember the actual figure.

And that is how Rigsby got his name. As I had to pay to have his passport sex changed, I changed his name too.

When we had Robin Gelded he had one stuck further up which the vet wasn't 100% sure he would be able to get to as part of a normal castration. He did and all was good.

My vet told be to expect a bill anywhere between £450 and £2500 depending on what he had to do. This was approach 3 years ago. Not as shocking as I thought - hope that helps.

Can't help with the actual prices because my experience is from a long time ago but just a comment on the reluctance to quote a figure.
The internal testicle isn't always in the same place so rig surgery is like looking for a needle in a haystack except you have to be really gentle with the hay while you're rooting! Vets' charges are based on time. This is one operation that can take very varied times.

I can't help with up to date prices but I recall having to resort to this surgery about 15 years ago. My only recollection on price is that I was very surprised how cheap it was, hence I can't even recall what the final bill was.

But that was here in Ireland and at that time general vet bills were much cheaper than in the UK, so probably not relevant anyway.
