Hi, first time posting here. I have a 5 year old gelding, I have had him since November, I noticed tonight that there is a testicle appeared. I am phoning the vets tomorrow but wondering if any one has has this before, is it expensive to correct. The dealer i got him from wont disclose his history. He is such a sweetie but lately he hasnt been himself and i think this is the cause, he still seems a but unbalanced, nervous at times and doesnt seem to be putting muscle on ar his back end very well. Could this be related? I have booked for his teethe to get done again, his saddle to get checked, his back to be checked and a sheath clean as I thought it was one of these. Thanks for any advice help.

Is it firm, or just a soft, almost liquid swelling?

I would just get the vet to examine.

You do need to get the vet to look. I think if it was a testicle you would have noticed it in his behaviour before now. Whatever it is the vet will know. Good luck.

If it's firm, I wouldn't be surprised if that was a sarcoid which can easily be banded, but the vet needs a look.

Yes, I spoke to the vet and sent picture, she thinks it is a testicle. He is going to her on Monday to get it removed, we agreed to go to her just incase it turns out to be a hernia but she is positive its a testicle.

Wow, that's a first for me in 50 years! Still, it will be easy to remove if it's dropped.

Definitely a shock, my vet phoned me straight back and was genuinely shocked also, I will post on Monday to confirm.

Wonder who castrated him then. I don't suppose there is a vet history on the passport. Vets won't normally go in and just remove one if the other is hidden, they'll go looking for it or wait to see if it drops.

Sadly no history about him and nothing in his passport. The person I bought him from cant recall who they got him from either. My vet did say it is illegal to just remove one. This is the issue, what if another is there hidden and he hasnt been done at all, but the vet explained today the plan to remove this one and give him a few weeks. If his behaviour is still off, we will check his bloody and if high it will have to be a case of going in to check. Crossing fingers that it is just the one.

If he is an amiable sort you should be able to search for scars on his scrotum.

I had a better look today and it look like its his right thats dropped and his left side looks like I can see a scar.

Update from the vet, she thinks its either a cyst or a hernia and he will be getting operated on tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for your replies and help. Vet has phoned, all has went well. It was a cyst. The vet said its only her 2nd time seeing this and both have been this year.
