Please can everyone tell Cobrastyle that she is being stupidly harsh on herself for being disappointed that she gets frightened of jumping my mare!!

She did a really good job today of going over a pole on the ground and slightly raised - even though it really scared her and she has broken ribs.

But she is punishing herself for the fact that she gets scared - which I fully know the feeling of - but she has no reason to berate herself for what she did today!

So tomorrow we plan to continue building her confidence and doing the same again - but I think Cobrastyle needs a bit of support and encouragement from more horsey people, so please send your confidence giving vibes!! :)

She does what I do, only I have no excuses like broken ribs.

Tell her she'll get there under her own steam in time- I was so scared this summer, and my sister spent ages making me trot over tiny weeny crosses and raised poles. I did a clear round class (60cm!) and she came in the ring with me and all but lead me round, screwing up her dressage warm up in the process. But now I'm gagging to get back on board and want to go XC schooling :D

Confidence is a fragile thing. Think of every little achievement as some money in the confidence box. You want to put lots in so if anything happens and you take some out, you've got lots left. So taking it very slowly is a very sensible thing to do :D

Thanks Lolo, that helped a lot! :) - Moomin, you up for a lead rein jumping class with me?! :D

To take yourself out of your comfort zone is something to be proud of, confidence is so fragile takes a long time to achieve and seconds to loose. Be proud of yourself don't berate yourself,it sounds like you have a great friend and someone who in time with support will get your confidence soaring again. Go for it again today.

And remember you don't have to jump if you don't want to!!

Riding is meant to be fun, not a way to scare yourself half to death so be proud and don't be so hard on yourself.

A very experienced and well respected instructor (who trains international riders). once told me that there is nothing wrong with been scared sometimes when riding. He said being scared was about self preservation and sometimes it was quite right to feel a little bit scared because that is what keeps us safe.
