right horse

daft question maybe but how do you know if your horse is the right one for you ive had my light weight cob for about a year and half done a lot of work with his schooling got him jumping nicely boxing and he is well marked piebald but there just seems to be something missing and i cant put my finger on it stupid i know

) we have got on well from the word go really!

maybe thats what it is maybe hes too steady for me although people tell me he might liven up as he gets fitter

Think I am in the opposite situation - I feel I totally have my 'horse in a million' but can't seem to do anything with her at the moment....

ETA - She's actually been v good lately but can be a madam at times.

Yep same here. I had a push button horse a few years back and I never really warmed to her. The mare I've got now is nothing short of dangerous - when some mystery trigger tells her to run she's off and the reins don't work, the rest of the time she's backward thinking. I just love how complicated she is. I know she's the right horse and I'm enjoying trying to figure her out much more than when I had to ride that other mare and just felt like I was going through the motions. If the horse you have doesn't just fascinate you and you don't really look forward to going to work with it, I'd sell it because it might be someone else's dream horse and your's might be out there too.

Storm and I just work well together. We're both excessively opinionated, odd and a bit silly, but it works. There are things that he finds 'scary' which I can nanny him through and there are things that I get nervy about which he will take me through

He's by no means straightforward (though he's not nasty), but I'm happy to put in the time and work on him - absolutely my horse of a lifetime

I know exactly what you mean - I feel the same with my horse. Don't know the answer really, I am still waiting for that 'click' - am going to go with the flow and see what happens - I love him dearly and the thought of not having him makes my heart heavy, at the same time I am not riding him all the time cos I am nervous.

!!I have now!!Had him from 8mnth old now 12!!Everything on the ground fab,breaking great,hacking out dreamy,schooling to start with,arghhhhh,lol!I could not get him to work for me and got off him every time frustrated until one day i burst into tears

thought we were never going to gel!!Dont know what happened but a year later be it determination or friends encouragement i really started to concentrate on what i was doing with him,attitude i had every time i got on was "WE WILL DO IT"!!Was gobsmacked,after a year of trying so hard,we just clicked!!Was a fantastic feeling!!Only thing i can put it down to was i was trying to hard and getting stressed and he knew it!!We trust each other soooo much now,mind have had him 11 years!!
