After a horrible jobless year I have finally got a permanent job again. So I have decided, I am not going to wait anymore, I am going to buy a horse.

I know I will be unhappy where I work so I at least deserve to be happy outside of work.

I had a share over the summer and loved it, but want to play by my own rules now....

I want something about 10 - 15, can do a bit of everything, compete at low level local shows for fun and can hack and school - both in company and alone. Sizewise - anything from 15' to 16'3. Any breed - more interested in the personality of the horse. Any colour. Don't mind a forward going horse as long as it isn't to sharp and, as a first horse owner, I would not be skilled enough to deal with big problems. I know my limitations so will not be aiming to reschool an ex-racer or anything like that.

I want to join a riding club so, basically, would love a horse who is capable of helping me with this.

Is £3k a sensible budget? I'm looking for a friend I can have some fun with. What do you wise HHOers think?

Think £3k is a sensible budget and got my lovely cob x for £2.7 and she's easy to do/cheap to run, very, very well schooled (show jumper in previous home) and is straightforward good fun! Good luck, take your time, hope you find something really nice!

Thank you Iceni. I hope so too.

Rambo is gorgeous. I'm going to look into yards soon so i'll be in touch if he's still available. Although he looks too good for me!!!!

Someone PMd me the other day with a horse that fits your criteria, it was on Horse hunter website, chestnut gelding in lincolnshire. A bit over your budget but they might be open to an offer for the right home I guess. Looked a super riding club type.

Yep £3k sounds right, about what I paid for mine who does RC and local-comps. He takes me round sj courses like an old pro. In hindsight his character was not ideal as a first horse. But he is brill anyway.

Thanks guys. I never look on the horse hunter website so cheers for making me aware of it.

And, it's good to know that I have set myself a sensible price too!
