its when a horse is castrated but only one testicle is removed. its normally unintentionally left but some circus horses only have one removed on purpose.
It would depend very much on the individual horse and how it had been managed and how it was going to be managed. Some rigs are no bother at all, but all too often they are like bulls in china shops - too much testosterone and nowhere to go.
I've never had the experience of riding one (met one on work experience), but if they were really great in every way and that was their only down side then I would consider buying one.
Does that mean it's retained a testicle and it would be impossible to get it taken out? I'd try and see if it could be removed with not too much expense. Might be worth it in the long run?
some people I know have just brought one, he's only 1 (they did not no it was a rig) The vet came down to "do the job" so to say and told them he was a rig, but it can still be done but will cost...and the pony will have to go into equine hospital. The pony is a night mare, a right handfull, but very cute...
I've heard of DIY jobs, but successful ones, certainly not something I'd ever attempt. No sedation or pain killers...ouch! Mind you, nearly every bullock in the country goes through that too!
