Just back from the most fantastic (and damp) day at Hickstead. Good start as we didn't have to leave until 11am ...
It was coloured day today and there were 7 classes wtih around 30 horses/ponies in each class.
Rained on and off throughout all our classes. I was groom for both our classes so got wet and muddy but who cares!
First up was Red Andes (one of the liveries) - he was called in second and ended up first in the plaited MW/HW class after the judge ride and conformation. Then Dinger and Jack went into the large cob/hairy/native class and Dinger was called in top and Jack in third - they both retained their places which was an amazing result.
Then the large championship - which Dinger won and Andy was reserve. Then through to the Supreme Coloured (which included the pony champion and reserve as well) - and Dinger was called in Supreme Coloured Champion of RIHS. This means he is now through to the Supreme of Show on Sunday which is absolutely amazing.
He didn't put a foot wrong all day (well, to be honest, he rarely puts a foot wrong anyway!) - and smiled in his "I love the rain, I love the trees, I love the flowers" way that he has. So a fantastic start to the RIHS week for us - rest day tomorrow, then hunters on Thursday, Riding Horses on Friday, Small Hunter and Maxis on Saturday and Cobs on Sunday. Hope the weather improves as it really was a little too wet but the ground is able to take quite a lot more rain to be honest.
Good luck to everyone else competing this week!
