Hi all,
Can anyone help with any suggestions please? I know the prognosis isn't very good in most situations but i just wanted to know how debilitating this is for a horse. Just looking for some advice - i have heard of this but don't really know much about it. Is it still possible to hack twice a week without jepordising their health?
Thanks

Mine has ringbone on his pastern in left fore. My vet gave a fairly dismal prognosis but had a long chat with my farrier (a remedial farrier) who put him in Natural Balance shoes and told me to keep him in work. He told me that horses with ringbone need to be kept in work and moving wherever possible.

I gave mine lots of time off and he was miserable. He is now back in full work (though no longer jumping) inc unaffil dressage, loads of hacking, schooling, lunging etc and is happy again. He thrives on constant work and if he has a few days off for any reason (ie, me working away), he actually gets quite stiff, even though he's turned out every day.

He has been given Tildren and Adequan this year. I think the former has really helped :) The NB shoes have also been great as he's moving really well. While the ground is hard he is having 1 sachet of Danilon per day but once the ground is softer I should be able to take him off it. I don't think it is a death sentence, just a case of working out how best to manage your horse. I've tried various things this year and seem to have finally worked out how he needs to be managed :) FWIW, he actually now looks and moves the best he ever has done!

Mine has just been diagnosed with ringbone in his coffin joints, my horse came sound with shoeing. He is also hacking now 4 times a week and schooling twice a week. So far so good he is also on a joint supplement from the vet. I don't jump or trot on the roads and hard ground.
