hi any know much about ring bone???my horse is in at the vets for back end lameness n vet said he does have ring bone in back leg but that is not what is causing him problems ??????

Ringbone is a form of arthritis found either at the top or bottom of the pastern bone - if it's at the top of the pastern, it's known as high ringbone, if at the bottom, it's low ringbone.

You'd see bony changes on X-ray - it doesn't always cause lameness initially, but as the arthritis develops, the bone growth can impinge on the flexion in the joint and cause soreness or restrict movement.

A horse can have ringbone for years and still be sound.
